1941 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003

Description

1941-S WRPM-003 is a repunched mint mark on the 1941-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S Southwest, with the secondary S southwest of the primary. The mint mark is a Large S. Obverse Stage A: a dot-sized chip under the chin, and a scratch below the crossbar of the date's 4. Stage B adds a light scratch near the bottom of the lapel and to its left, midway between the bust's left and right ends. Stage C adds a scratch from the upper part of GOD's O to its D, and a crack at the bottom of the lapel. Stage D adds a crack above the VDB. Wexler detected no reverse markers on the circulated coins seen for Stages A and B. Stage C shows a long scratch between UNITED's U and N. On Stage D a small crack appears toward the top of the left wheat stalk, in the kernels, two kernels long at this stage. John Bordner submitted Stage A, Lloyd Hanson Stages B and C, and Brian Ribar Stage D. CONECA lists it as RPM #3; the Coppercoins number is 1941S-1MM-003. Brian Ribar took the die marker photos for the Wexler RPM Files. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
