1941 Mercury Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 / DDO-002

Description

The 1941 DDO-002, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1941 Mercury dime, with IN GOD WE TRUST and the nose strongly spread and a lighter spread on the trunk of the bust and the 1 of the date. Both catalogs cite Cherrypickers FS-101 and CONECA 2-O-IV+VIII; Wexler writes the Cherrypickers number as FS-10-1941-101. Wexler describes the spread as strong toward the NNE on the nose and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, parallel north-south scratches cross both dots. The reverse shows many light north-south scratches across its surface and a clash mark in the lower left leaves. Thomas McGowan submitted the coin. VarietyVista follows the die under its marker codes UVC-127 and DMR-004.
