Description

An upward displacement defines the 1941-D Mercury Dime RPM-006, where the secondary D sits to the north of the primary — creating extra metal or a visible shadow above the top of the final D. Northward repunchings can manifest as thickened serifs at the top of the letter or a partial outline of the secondary D extending above the primary, depending on the separation between impressions. This is the sixth RPM for the 1941-D, indicating Denver produced substantial working dies with visible repunching that year. The pre-war Denver Mint operated at robust levels in 1941, supplying silver dimes for an economy gearing up for mobilization — a transition realized after December 7. Weinman's design had been in production since 1916, and the delicate wing detail on Liberty's cap and the intricate fasces binding demanded precise die work. Each coin was 90% silver at 2.50 grams and 17.9mm. Focus on the upper edge of the D mintmark on the reverse, where the northward secondary impression produces doubling above the primary letter.
