1940-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

An S/S Northeast variety documented by VarietyVista, this primary RPM for the 1940-S date pairs the repunched mintmark with an obverse die listed as DDO-001, elevating collector interest. Die markers UVC-083 / DMR-002: Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse at MDS and a die crack in the right wheat grains at MDS; Stage C with a die crack over V.D.B. at LMDS, reverse at LMDS; Stage D with obverse at LDS, a die crack from O of ONE to rim between IB of PLURIBUS at LDS, and a die crack from E of ONE to rim at the second dot of E PLURIBUS UNUM. The Stage D dual cracks from ONE extending to different rim positions document terminal structural failure across the reverse die. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck at the San Francisco Mint during the pre-war era.
