1940 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-010

Description

1940-S WRPM-010 is a repunched mint mark on the 1940-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West, with the secondary S west of the primary. Wexler separates it from its neighbors by mint mark position. Compared with WRPM-013, the primary mint mark sits slightly lower and farther from the date's 9; it sits higher than on WRPM-014 through WRPM-017 (014, 015, 016, and 017); and the serif's separation is more centered than on WRPM-018. Neither obverse stage, A or B, shows prominent die markers. On the Stage A reverse a crack leaves the rim at 2:00 heading SSW into the wheat lines of the right ear. On Stage B a crack leaves the rim at 4:30 heading NNE into the right ear's grains. John Bordner submitted Stage A and Stuart Grimes Stage B. CONECA lists it as RPM #6; the Coppercoins number is 1940S-1MM-006.
