Description
1940 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date and LIBERTY show strong extra thickness, and IGWT (IN GOD WE TRUST) lesser thickness. Obverse: a gouge on the lower vest; a scratch running NNW from the bust to the left of the date's 1; a curving scratch right of the hair's front fold, in the field; vertical scratches behind the neck; scratches in front of the temple; strong scratches parallel to the rim above GOD's D; and a scratch parallel to the rim right of WE's E. Wexler notes no reverse markers. Jennifer Casazza submitted the variety. The Coppercoins number is 1940P-1DO-005.
