1940 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-017

Description

1940 WDDO-017 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Southeast of the primary eyelid lies an extra eyelid. Obverse: a gouge (dot) below the date's 4 at its lower left; a short scratch heading northeast from the bottom of the 1; and a clash mark right of the throat. Reverse: a light scratch from the bottom of PLURIBUS' U to its S; a short gouge right of ONE's O at its lower right, and a dot just under the upper right of ONE's E; and a dot just left of the lower left of the second U in PLURIBUS. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
