1940 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-010

Description

1940 WDDO-010 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extremely close spread toward the rim shows on the bottom of LIBERTY's B and on the date's 4 and 0. Obverse: a gouge under the N of IN; a diagonal gouge above the hair below WE; a faded vertical gouge in the field right of the middle of the forehead; and a small gouge inside the top of LIBERTY's Y. Reverse: light feeder-finger damage through PLURIBUS' P and L, and an area of feeder-finger damage between the U and N of UNUM; a dot just above the last S of STATES, over its lower left curve; and a dot along the right wheat stalk's left edge, south of that S. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
