1940 WDDO-009 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940 Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. GOD, WE, and the 4 and 0 of the date show an extremely close spread toward the rim. Obverse: a curved scratch between the date's 9 and 4; a series of gouges above the N of IN; gouges at the rim over GOD's G and NW of its D; a series of light horizontal scratches through TRUS of TRUST; light vertical scratches through IBE of LIBERTY; and a horizontal scratch behind the lower lapel. Reverse: a crack from ONE's O through PLURIBUS' L to the rim; a horizontal scratch bridging the upper opening of UNUM's first U, and horizontal scratches between the U and M of UNUM; a series of faded diagonal scratches inside the opening of CENT's C; a vertical scratch under the left side of the T's crossbar in CENT; a horizontal scratch joining the O of OF with UNITED's N; and a crack through the right wheat grains and on into the field well right of AMERICA's last A.
