1940 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

1940-D WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1940-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Strong extra thickness covers both wheat ears and stems, EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM), and the dots. Obverse: two horizontal scratches just inside the rim over the U and S of TRUST; a scratch running mostly north from the top of LIBERTY's T; a series of light vertical scratches on the neck and below the chin; two gouges on the lower shoulder fold of the jacket; and a diagonal scratch heading NW from the back of the lower bust. Reverse: a series of vertical scratches right of ONE's E; vertical scratches around CENT's T; a series of vertical scratches through UNI of UNITED; a vertical scratch linking the left wheat stem with the bottom of OF's F; and a series of vertical scratches through ERIC of AMERICA.
