1940 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1940-D WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A light spread shows on the 40 of the date and on IN GO WE TRUST, and Wexler notes a possible minor doubled eye southeast of the normal eye. Obverse: two gouges right of TRUST's first T; a series of vertical scratches NW of the date's 1; a small gouge (dot) on the bust, well southwest of the date; another small dot on the L of LIBERTY at its lower right edge; and a light crack crossing the bust's truncation above the VDB initials. Reverse: a small gouge on the N of ONE at its upper left edge; a dot SSE of the middle crossbar of ONE's E; and a short scratch rising north from the second T of STATES. J.C. Moreland submitted the variety. The Coppercoins number is 1940D-1DO-002.
