1940 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1940-D WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1940-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Both wheat tips and E PLURIBUS UNUM show light separation lines. Obverse: diagonal scratches through the top and bottom of the date's 1; gouges between the lower lip and the chin; a light vertical scratch rising north from the bridge of the nose; a diagonal scratch above the eyelid; and a series of vertical scratches through and around LIBERTY's TY. Reverse: a diagonal scratch through the opening of CENT's C; a series of vertical scratches through its T; a long scratch running mostly north between the U and N of UNITED; a diagonal scratch through the opening of UNITED's D; a dot left of the bottom of the first S in STATES; a diagonal scratch joining the bottom of that S with the E of AMERICA; and roughly vertical scratches through the AT of STATES.
