Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-072 and DMR-002, this 1939 Denver Lincoln wheat cent carries the primary repunched mintmark listing for the date, documented across four die states showing clean progression from early to late condition. Stage A shows both obverse and reverse in early die state. Stage B advances both sides to early-mid die state with no new markers. Stage C at mid die state introduces a die crack on the lower shoulder with the reverse reaching mid condition. By Stage D in late die state, the crack extends through the V.D.B. initials with the reverse also reaching late condition. The four-state progression from pristine surfaces through shoulder cracking to V.D.B. involvement traces the typical failure path on Lincoln wheat cent obverse dies, where stress concentrations at the bust truncation eventually propagate into the designer's initials.
