1938 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003

Description

This 1938 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent repunched mint mark, WRPM-003, is cataloged by Wexler (doubleddie.com) as 1938-S 1¢ WRPM-003. The mint mark is S/S West. Stage A obverse: lathe marks near the rim around 10:00 and a small chip on the upper left of the head below the G of GOD; Stage C adds a gouge below the S in TRUST. Reverse Stage A: a heavy NNE-SSW crack along the right wheat grains. Stage B is a new reverse die with heavy lathe gouges below the left wheat stem and a long scratch from the T of CENT, and later stages add a gouge near the rim NW of the M in UNUM and light cracks along the right wheat ear.
