1938 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1938 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1938 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The spread is toward the east, growing from left to right, and shows on the D of GOD, on WE, and on the ST of TRUST. On the obverse, a scratch lies just above the hair, at a point between LIBERTY's E and R. On the reverse, a crack crosses the middle of the RIBUS in PLURIBUS and reaches the eagle's left wing at its top, and another crack lies above the branch that sits north of the T in QUARTER. John A. Wexler submitted the variety, and Joe Feld later upgraded it. CONECA lists it as 2-O-II, and Crawford as CDDO-001.
