Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-048 and DMR-002, this 1935 San Francisco Lincoln wheat cent carries the primary repunched mintmark listing for the date. Three die states are documented. Stage A remains unconfirmed. Stage B at late-mid die state reveals a medium-strength secondary mintmark, two die gouge dots under the T of LIBERTY, and a die crack running north from the O of ONE through the first U of PLURIBUS. By Stage C in late die state, the secondary mintmark has weakened and the reverse has reached late-mid die state. The progressive weakening of the repunched S across die states follows the typical pattern where continued striking flattens the secondary impression. San Francisco wheat cents from the mid-1930s saw modest mintages, and hand-punching routinely produced positional variations. The LIBERTY T gouge dots in Stage B provide a useful obverse diagnostic independent of the mintmark examination.
