1935-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

The first documented RPM for the 1935-S date, this Buffalo Nickel was documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-154 / DMR-005 across three stages: Stage A at EDS with a light die gouge from the plain Southeast to the upper I of FIVE and the obverse at EDS; Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with reverse and obverse at LDS. The die gouge near the FIVE CENTS denomination provides an early-state attribution marker. James Earle Fraser's design features a composite Native American portrait on the obverse and a bison on the reverse, with the S mintmark beneath the denomination. At 75% copper and 25% nickel, 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1935-S was struck near the end of the Buffalo series, which concluded in 1938.
