1935-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Distinguished by a triple-punched mint mark showing D/D/D South, South — three overlapping D impressions each shifted southward — this 1935-D Washington Quarter RPM-002 is a scarce example of triple repunching on a silver denomination. Triple-punched mintmarks are notably less common than double-punched varieties, requiring three misaligned impressions during die preparation. Struck in 90% silver at Denver during the Depression era, this early Washington Quarter date comes from a period of modest production — the series had begun only in 1932. Documented by VarietyVista with codes UVC-0034 and DMR-004, the variety has been observed across three die states: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B with both sides at mid-die state, and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). Washington Quarter RPMs from the mid-1930s are prized because Depression-era mintages were low enough that surviving examples in collectible condition are genuinely scarce. The triple D/D/D southward displacement creates layered serif impressions visible under moderate magnification.
