1934-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002
Error
Description
Cataloged by the Wexler Team as WDDR-002, this 1934 Denver Lincoln Wheat Cent exhibits a doubled die reverse with light extra thickness on E PLURIBUS UNUM and the separating dots, with the stronger spread directed to the left. The asymmetric doubling is characteristic of hub misalignment during the hubbing process. Diagnostic die markers confirm the attribution: on the obverse, a die crack runs between the upper R and T in LIBERTY, with die gouges extending northeast from the top of the T. The reverse carries three die gouges east of the center horizontal bar of the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM, providing reliable secondary confirmation. The 1934-D occupies an important place in the Lincoln Cent series as Depression-era production, when Denver was striking cents in significant quantities to meet commercial demand. No other cross-reference designations have been established beyond the Wexler attribution, making WDDR-002 the primary catalog identification for collectors and dealers.
