1934-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-002

Description

A combination die displaying both obverse and reverse doubling, this 1934 Denver Washington Quarter DDO-002 shows a light spread on LIBER of LIBERTY with rotational displacement on RTY and the date. The Stage C reverse is separately listed as DDR-001, making this a documented combo variety where both dies carry attributable doubling. Cataloged by VarietyVista with die tracking codes UVC-0023 and DMR-005, three die states are documented. Stage A shows light north-south die scratches on the obverse in early die state with the reverse also EDS. Stage B exhibits a die crack across the upper hair and bust, with the reverse displaying a die crack through QUARTER and DOLLAR at mid-die state. Stage C reveals further deterioration with additional die cracks. The dual DDO-002/DDR-001 attribution on the same die pair is significant, as combination dies carrying independently listed obverse and reverse varieties are relatively uncommon. Struck in 90% silver in John Flanagan's Washington Quarter design during the Depression era, the 1934-D represents early Denver production of this enduring series.
