1932 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 / DDO-001

Description

DDO-001, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1932 Washington quarter, doubled on Washington's nose and ear and on the back of his queue. Both catalogs list it as Cherrypickers FS-101 (Wexler: FS-25-1932-101). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties calls it a Class IV spread to the north on the nose, the ear and the rear of the queue. It follows two stages per side. Obverse stage A has a light crack running ENE through the upper hair, which is stronger by obverse stage B. Reverse stage A has a crack down the outer edge of the right wing; reverse stage B adds a crack from the middle of IBUS in PLURIBUS to the top of the eagle's left wing. Mark P. Lafferty submitted it, and CONECA lists it as 1-O-IV. VarietyVista, crediting Jose Cortez, describes strong spread on the nostril, the earlobe and the back of the queue. Under UVC-0002 and DMR-002 it lists an early stage A it has not confirmed; stage B, middle on both sides, with a light crack across the bust, a crack across the upper hair and a crack down the eagle's right wing; and stage C, with the obverse late and cracks through IBUS of PLURIBUS to the wing, also late.
