1932 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001

Description

As the very first doubled die obverse documented for the inaugural year of the Washington Quarter series, the 1932 DDO-001 holds landmark status in U.S. numismatic variety collecting. Cross-referenced as FS-101 in the Fivaz-Stanton Cherrypickers' Guide, this variety displays strong spread on Washington's nostril, earlobe, and back of queue. Cataloged as UVC-0002 with DMR-002, the die progressed through three documented stages: Stage A in early die state, Stage B showing a light die crack across the bust at mid-die state with a crack across the upper hair and down the eagle's right wing, and Stage C in late die state with die cracks extending through IBUS of PLURIBUS to the wing.
