The upward (northward) displacement direction indicates the secondary hub impression was offset slightly toward the top of the die relative to the primary, a direction that would theoretically also affect other design elements above or below the eye — yet the doubling's visibility concentrates exclusively on the eyelid, where the fine engraved line provides the most sensitive surface for detecting small vertical offsets. This localization to a single facial feature follows the same pattern seen on other Lincoln eyelid DDOs, where the portrait's facial topography creates a natural visibility threshold that only the eyelid's sharp contour exceeds.
