Description

=1923-P VAM-1A1 "Whisker Jaw"= Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, May 1967. Revised 2008 This coin is a Top 50 Peace Dollar VAM. 1A1 II 1 B2a (Whisker Jaw) I-3 R-6 Obverse II 1 - Extra silver metal from jaw to neck due to die break. Reverse B2a - Normal die. VAM 1A DIE STAGES: 4 STAGE 1: STAGE 2: STAGE 3: STAGE 4: (DESCRIPTIONS AND PICTURES OF STAGES COMING SOON) Comments: # Unlike Morgan dollar die breaks which start at the rim, Peace dollar dies inevitably break in the middle of the coin. Here the stress point at the junction of the neck and jaw collapsed, leaving an interesting variety to collect. The Whisker Jaw is large enough that it's visible to the naked eye and is also known to come in high grades; making it a very collectible part of the Top 50. Despite the R-7 rarity factor for the Vam 1A2, this Sub-Variety is nearly as common as the regular 1A.
