Ray Castro, known in the variety collecting community by the alias Hobocarver, discovered VAM-1Z of the 1922 Peace Dollar in 2014, documenting light die file lines concentrated around Liberty's head on the obverse. Cataloged as plate II1 with a B1a reverse die class, this variety carries an importance rating of I-2 and a rarity rating of R-5, estimating 31 to 75 known specimens. The variety name, Die File Lines Liberty Head, describes precisely where the filing evidence is most visible: light die file lines appear in the fields at Liberty's profile, neck, and date area, with additional traces at the eye and neck contour. Unlike the heavy filing seen on some Peace Dollar VAMs, the light character of these lines suggests a restrained maintenance intervention—perhaps an early-stage polishing intended to refresh the die surface without dramatically altering design relief.
