1922 Peace Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1922 WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1922 Peace dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, the designer's initials and LIBERTY's L are doubled. On the obverse, a nearly horizontal scratch runs under the R in LIBERTY. The reverse is the doubled die 1922 WDDR-005. It is doubled on the olive branch and leaves, the talons, the ray beside the eagle's upper right wing on its right, the rays left of the legs, and the rays through and above ONE. The back feathers of the lower legs are tripled, spreading both left and right. A small gouge (dot) lies beside the ray that passes between DOLLAR's O and first L, to the right of that ray's upper part. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
