Documented in 2010, VAM-1E2 is a die-break variety of the 1922 Denver Peace Dollar, carrying the VAMWorld plate designation 1E II 1 B1a for the die break state that defines this subvariety. The primary feature distinguishing VAM-1E2 is a structural die failure on the obverse: two die cracks converge above the letter T in TRVST — the archaic spelling used on the Peace Dollar design — forming a triangular area of depressed field known as a displaced-field die break, where the enclosed metal has settled slightly below the surrounding die face. This triangle of displaced field impresses a raised plateau on the coin, a characteristic form of progressive die failure more advanced than a simple crack line. Adding to the diagnostics, small die chips appear at the back of Liberty's neck — corresponding to small raised metal deposits on struck coins that confirm the specific die state.
