1922 (D) Peace Dollar - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1922-D WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1922-D Peace dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. Light doubling shows on the olive branches and leaves, the rays above and below ONE and left of the legs, the back leg feathers, and the lower part of DOLL in DOLLAR. The obverse is the doubled die 1922-D WDDO-001, with a strong spread to the north on TRUST, the date, the designer's initials, the bust's lower edge and the hair at the lower back of the head. Its markers are a small gouge left of the upper lip, scratches running WNW from the lower front of the bust, and WSW/ENE scratches above the 22 in the date. On the reverse, a heavy gouge crosses from the first S of STATES through the T to the A, and a light scratch runs from below the mint mark to the feathers. Joe Feld submitted the variety. Its VAM number is #4.
