1921-P VAM-1AZ Die Gouges ST, Scribbling Die Scratches # Discovery 2012 1AZ IV1 - D2a (Die Gouges ST, Scribbling Die Scratches #) (189) Obverse IV 1 - Slightly doubled/tripled left stars. Light die polishing lines on face. Reverse D2a- Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle’s right leg and between eagle’s left wing and body. Die marker - Heavy vertical die scratch above right wreath ribbon. Single die gouge above S and also T in States near denticles from feed finger contact. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: Listed in 2012 Supplement as 1921-P VAM-1AY; Changed to 1AZ in 2013 Supplement. Believe it or not, you are looking at the same coin in both the scribbles images. The photos were shot at different angles to the light. This variety is a great example of how difficult scribbles can be. From different angles they appear to be entirely different varieties.
