Description

A doubled die reverse on the 1909-S Lincoln Wheat Cent, VDDR-002 shows light spread on TE of UNITED, F of OF, TA of STATES, and M of AMERICA — the same scattered letter pattern as VDDR-047 but from a different die. Catalog codes are pending assignment. Stage A is the key diagnostic state: a die scratch connects the upper portions of OD in GOD at early die state, providing a reliable attribution marker. Stages B (MDS) and C (LDS) remain unconfirmed. This variety appears on reverse design varieties RDV-004 (deep cut N, no V.D.B.) and RDV-003 (shallow cut N, no V.D.B.) — the version struck after Brenner's initials were removed from the reverse in 1909. The 1909-S without V.D.B. is scarcer than its Philadelphia counterpart, adding significance to any cataloged variety from this die combination. Cataloged by VarietyVista.
