Description
1889-S VAM-5 Far Date, High 9 Discovered by Charles Wallace, February, 1959. Revised 2009. 5 (revised) III2 3 - C3a (Far Date, High 9) (184) Obverse III2 3 - 9 set higher than the rest of the numerals and doubled on right side and bottom of lower loop. Later specimens show die chip between loops of left 8 on right. Date set further right than normal. Reverse C3a - Very slightly doubled lower arrow feathers and lower shaft. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: The PUP lock for the 1889-S VAM-5 is the gouge in the 2nd hair-vee above the 2nd star. There is a pitted obverse early in the striking. Late Die Stages have die cracks lines at and around both wing tips.
