1888-S VAM-3A1 Near Date, Doubled 8, Clashed Obverse n & st Discovered by Ash Harrison, June 2003. This coin is a Super CD Morgan Vam. 3A III2 2 · C3a (Near Date, Doubled 8, Clashed Obverse n & st) (186) Obverse III2 2– Clashed dies w/ faint partial incuse n of In from rev. next to Liberty's neck & partial incuse s & t of Trust from rev. showing in right hair vee of lower hair edge. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Early die stages with a reflective obverse show a very high contrast clash, especially on the left side, where the word "In", the wing, and the left wreath can be seen all the way up to Liberty's hair. The clashing can easily hide in the die polishing lines if the lighting is wrong. # The reverse die is heavily polished. The clash transferred these polishing lines to the obverse, strengthening the contrast in the clash. # The exact same obverse die was used to produce [[1888-S VAM-3, [[1888-S VAM-3A1, [[1888-S VAM-3A2, # The exact same reverse die was used to produce [[1888-S VAM-3A1, [[1888-S VAM-3A2. The reverse of the [[1888-S VAM-3 is different. # The [[1888-S VAM-3C shares neither obverse nor reverse with [[1888-S VAM-3, [[1888-S VAM-3A1, [[1888-S VAM-3A2.
