Description
The 1887 (S) Morgan Dollar represents a San Francisco Mint issue from the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 1,771,000 Morgan dollars in 1887. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. Struck during the Gilded Age of rapid industrialization and the great silver debates, when monetary policy shaped elections and economic destiny. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage. Estimated market value ranges from $87 to $1.9K depending on grade and condition.
