The defining characteristic is a buffed reverse: the entire reverse die surface was polished or buffed, softening fine details across the eagle, wreath, and lettering while leaving the overall design intact. This deliberate die maintenance distinguishes the VAM-1C from normal die wear, as buffing removes small amounts of metal uniformly rather than through the progressive deterioration of striking. The WOW! designation signals to collectors that this variety merits special attention, typically reserved for visually dramatic or historically significant entries.
