1882-P VAM-15
Error
Description
Discovered by Martin Field in September 1980, the 1882-P Morgan Dollar VAM-15 (revised) is classified as III2 15, die pair 179, with a C3a normal reverse die (Doubled 18-2). The obverse shows tripled date elements: the 1 is doubled on the left side of the base as a notch, the first 8 is slightly doubled at the left outside and right inside of the upper loop, and the upper ball of the 2 is doubled on the right side. Collectors should also consult VAM-37 and VAM-30, which share related die characteristics. The "revised" designation indicates this listing was updated from its original description, reflecting refinements in the VAM attribution process. The doubling across three date digits provides multiple confirmation points, with the notch on the base of the 1 being the most readily identifiable pickup marker under moderate magnification.
