Description

Leonard Hinckley discovered this Philadelphia Morgan dollar in February 1974, with the listing revised in November 2014 by pacificwr. Cataloged as VAM-11 (revised) under classification III2 11 with a C3a reverse, titled Doubled Date, it carries a rarity rating of 180. Hub doubling affects the entire date: the 1 appears slightly at the bottom of the upper crossbar, the left 8 at the right inside and left outside of the upper loop, the right 8 at the top outside of the upper loop and slightly on the left outside of the lower loop, and the 2 slightly at the top left outside of the upper loop. Beyond the date, slight doubling also appears on Liberty's profile at the nose, lips, and chin. A tiny raised dot above the E in LIBERTY serves as the obverse die marker. The reverse C3a is a normal die with no distinguishing features. The profile doubling combined with the date doubling indicates that the entire obverse hub impression was shifted, affecting both the fixed design elements and the date digits simultaneously. Collectors should screen for the raised dot above E in LIBERTY as the quickest initial confirmation point. =1882-P VAM-11 Doubled Date= Discovered by Leonard Hinckley, February 1974.
