Description

1882-P VAM-24 Doubled 882, Doubled 1 Base Above Denticles MPD Discovered by Brian Raines, 2009 Revised by Brian Raines 2014 '''24(revised) III2 23 - C3a (Doubled 882, Doubled 1 Base Above Denticles MPD) (181) ''' '''Obverse III2 23-''' Doubled 882 in date. Slightly doubled inside left 8 and right outside of upper loop, right 8 at left outside of both loops and 2 at top outside of upper loop. Double left side of 1 base below left 8 with narrow horizontal bar and faint vertical line on right side in upper denticle space just to left of 1 base in field. 1 was punched into denticles with tilt to left, so only left base shows, Hair above date is over polished. Fine pitting on Liberty head, particularly strong at top of ear. Later die states has MPD polished and worn away. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: '''Comments:''' # In later stages, the MPD is little more than a 'dot' under the first 8. These LDS pieces are worth little or no premium. The early stage with sharp detail on the misplaced digits still appears to be quite rare.
