Description
1881-S VAM-15 Doubled 88, S/S Far Left Discovered by Leonard Hinckley, February 1974. 15 III2 8 - C3g (Doubled 88, S/S Far Left) (185) Obverse III2 8 - First 8 doubled on top surface inside and bottom outside of lower loop and left inside and right outside of top loop. Second 8 has bulge at top left outside of lower loop. Reverse C3g- Mint mark is repunched with original showing as a short spike at far left inside of upper loop opening. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: I currently have this exact die pair being called 1881-S VAM-13 (AOH(Attribution on holder)), 1881-S VAM-15 (AOH) & 1881-S VAM-34 (AOH). Clearly a revision/kill is in order. The marriage pictured here uses the VAM 14 reverse confirmed by markers from VAM 14A. At least 3 marriages use this reverse and I'm not certain any are described with accurate secondary markers for their respective obverse dies. (*Duplicate Alert - see 1881-S VAM-13, 1881-S VAM-34.*)
