Description
1881-S VAM-10 S/S Left Discovered by Tom DeLorey, March 1974. Revised by Chris Simpson Sept, 2018 10 III2 6 · C3b (Revised)(Doubled & Spiked 8's, S/S Left, Engraved Wreath Leaves) (186) Obverse III2 6– Both 8's have short die chip spike at top left inside of upper loop. Left 8 slightly doubled on lower right surface of lower loop. Right 8 strongly doubled at bottom right inside of upper loop. Top of Phrygian cap slightly doubled. Reverse C3b- Mint mark is repunched and tilted slightly to left with original showing as a long vertical spike within the middle of the upper loop opening and an arc to the right of the lower loop opening. (Revised 2018) Some engraving on two outside leaves and lower raised edges to strengthen from over polishing. Weak vertical die polishing lines in fields. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: This exact same obverse die was used to produce 1881-S VAM-9, 1881-S VAM-10 & 1881-S VAM-38. The doubling of the top of the cap is VERY weak.
