=1881-P VAM-17 Doubled 1 Top & Base= Discovered March 2004 by Mark Kimpton, Revision November 2010 17 (revised) III2 17 · C3a (Doubled 1 Top & Base) ( ? ) Obverse III2 17– Second 1 in date slightly doubled at top left and on base at top left and right. First 8 has die chip at top left inside of upper loop. Reverse C3a - Normal die ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # On revision Leroy said that the "spectacular die impressions appear to be water droplets that were struck thru during the initial hubbing operation. Workmen didn't clean the condensation on the die face completely. Don't think it was grease or oil droplets which likely would have been larger. Haven't seen this severe of droplet impressions before. A major find of a new type of die impressions! A nice new BU coin must look like the Liberty,s head had chicken pox! # It looks like the 1881-P VAM-1B was relisted as 1881-P VAM-17A. Pending a decision....
