=1878-P VAM-222C Spiked Eye= 222C II 2 · C3b (Spiked Eye) (194) Discovered By Mark Witkower Obverse II 2– Short spikes above and below eyelid front. Broken point of fourth right star. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This 1878 Reverse of 79 variety has a small die gouge on the obverse starting above the eyelid and reappearing just below in front of the eye. The reverse shows hub doubling of UNITED STATES bottom inside with left inside strong on U of UNITED, I of In at top, top right edge of eagle’s right wing, and left edge of some leaves in left wreath. Bottom feather of eagle’s right wing is squared off and raised. This is the normal reverse design, except for hub doubling.
