Description
The 1868 Proof Cent Pattern - J-611 is a proof cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. This is the so-called 1868 large cent: the Braided Hair large cent design of 1840 to 1857, dated 1868 and made at the Mint for sale to collectors. About a dozen are known in copper; one was in Mint Director Linderman's collection, sold in 1888. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-676 and Adams-Woodin 703. Cataloged as PCGS #60823.
