Description
The 1868 Proof Cent Pattern - J-609 is a proof cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse carries Longacre's coronet Liberty head, as on the nickel three-cent piece, and its reverse shows a Roman numeral I inside a laurel wreath. It was issued in sets with matching three-cent and five-cent pieces; about eight to ten are known in copper. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-674, Adams-Woodin 701 and Taxay EP511. Cataloged as PCGS #60821.
