Description
The 1868 Proof Cent Pattern - J-606 is a proof cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse borrows Longacre's Liberty head from the nickel three-cent piece, wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, and its reverse shows a plain Roman numeral I inside an agricultural wreath of wheat, corn, cotton and tobacco. It was issued in sets with matching three-cent and five-cent pieces; about ten are known in copper. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-671, Adams-Woodin 699 and Taxay EP508. Cataloged as PCGS #60818.
