Description
The 1868 Proof Cent Pattern - J-608 is a proof cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse carries Longacre's coronet Liberty head, as on the nickel three-cent piece, and its reverse shows a Roman numeral I inside a laurel wreath. It was issued in sets with matching three-cent and five-cent pieces; Pollock describes high-date and centered-date obverses. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-4. It is also catalogued as Pollock-673, Adams-Woodin 700 and Taxay EP510. Cataloged as PCGS #60820.
