Description

The 1864 Proof Quarter Pattern - J-388 is a proof quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. This quarter carries the IN GOD WE TRUST reverse adopted in 1866, so it is often called a transitional piece; USPatterns says these were made after 1866, from about 1869 into the early 1870s, and sold in sets. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge; USPatterns rates it R-8. Catalogued as Judd-388, Pollock-456, A/W 442, Taxay EP396. Cataloged as PCGS #60559.
