Description
The 1863 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-343 is a proof half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. This half dollar carries the IN GOD WE TRUST reverse adopted in 1866, so it is often called a transitional piece; USPatterns says these were made after 1866, from about 1869 into the early 1870s, and sold in sets. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge; USPatterns rates it R-7. Catalogued as Judd-343, Pollock-415, A/W 372, Taxay EP368. Cataloged as PCGS #60505.
