Description

Judd-342, Pollock-394, is the fifth 1863 proof half dollar motto pattern. By this point in the series, the design was approaching its near-final form, with the broad conceptual questions settled and the remaining work focusing on proportional adjustments and decorative refinements. The scroll bearing the motto, the positioning relative to the eagle's head and wings, and the interaction with the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA legend all required careful calibration to achieve visual harmony on the half dollar's generous reverse field.
