Description

Judd-341, Pollock-393, is the fourth variety in the extensive 1863 proof half dollar motto series. The accumulation of half dollar patterns across three years (1861-1863) now totaled fifteen distinct varieties (J-277 through J-280, J-293 through J-296, and J-338 through J-344), making the motto half dollar one of the most extensively studied design developments in the history of the US Mint. This wealth of material provides numismatists with an exceptionally detailed record of the evolutionary process that led to the adoption of IN GOD WE TRUST.
