Description
This 1786 Vermont copper has a head facing left with VERMON AUCTORI. In October 1786 Vermont extended Harmon's grant for eight years from July 1, 1787 and ordered a new design: a head with AUCTORITATE VERMONTENSIUM, shortened on the coins to AUCTORI VERMON, and a seated woman with INDE ET LIB. In 1787 Harmon and his partners joined the owners of Machin's Mills near Newburgh, New York, and some dies of these years turn up with dies of other coppers. Crosby notes that these heads are much like those of the common Connecticut coppers. PCGS number 551.
