About This Coin
The North American Token group of the Post-1776 Private and Regional Issues (1778-1820) series holds the pieces described below. The North American token is dated 1781 but is now thought to have been struck in Dublin in the 1810s or 1820s and backdated (search). The obverse shows Hibernia seated with a harp, and the reverse a two-masted ship with the word COMMERCE (search).
